“The New Venue” depicts a process of creating venues and spaces that host social dancing events. These new venues will challenge social dancers to dance on surfaces that will force them to alter their dancing behaviors and styles.
Sora Park is an interdisciplinary artist whose practice involves an ethnographic study of social dancing subcultures around the world. She investigates various issues that emerge when a cultural product, such as dance, migrates out of a country of origin and is interpreted by different cultures. Some of her most recent research topics include passion as a cultural commodity, creation of national identity and patriotism through exported cultural product, ownership based on race, etc.
She is currently a student in Master of Fine Art program at Bergen Academy of Art and Design in Norway.
