Tingen er det vi tenker om verda, heller enn det vi finn i verda. Anten det er ein medviten handling eller ikkje, tileignar vi Tingen ei meining som passar til våre behov og formål. Det er naturleg å spørje kva det er, dette vi ser på. Alle vil vi jo vite kva det eigentlig førestiller, men det finst ingen fasit. Det er ikkje alltid så lett å vite om ein skal plukke frå kvarandre det ein lager, klinisk og omstendelig, for å forklare alt med store ord og samankoplingar. Av og til berre er dei. Dei sitt der og putlar med sitt.
Mari Norddahl arbeider med performance, skulptur og installasjon, der mjuke, abstrakte tekstilobjekt står sentralt. Desse opptrer i arbeida som eigne vesen med ein eigen agenda, og følgjer ein organisk estetikk med ein likskap til det kroppslege. Norddahl har ein mastergrad i kunst frå Fakultet for Kunst, Musikk og Design frå 2017. Snakes, Seals and Stones er resultatet av to års arbeid i atelier for nyutdannede i Kunstnerverksteder CS55 (2017-2019).

The thing is what we think of the world, rather than what we find in the world. Weather a conscious choice or not, we ascribe meaning onto the thing that fits our needs and purposes. It is natural to ask what this is, this thing we are looking at, but there is no right or wrong answer. It’s not always easy to know if one should pick the work apart, slow and meticulous, to try to explain it all with big words and connections. Sometimes things just are. Sitting there, minding their own business.
Mari Norddahl works with performance, sculpture and installation, where soft, abstract textile objects have a central place. These perform in work as their own beings with their own agenda, and follow an organic aesthetic with a similarity to the corporeal. Norddahl holds an MFA from the Faculty of Fine Art, Music and Design from 2017. Snakes, Seals and Stones is the result of two years in the studio for recent graduates in Kunstnerverksteder CS55 (2017-2019).
