Premiere of “Help the Dead” – a new live art project by the artist Every Ocean Hughes which addresses self-determination, accountability and the fantasy of continuity. Part concert, part theatre, “Help the Dead” draws inspiration from a series of workshops the artist attended over the last two years, where Ocean Hughes was learning how to be a death doula, to care for dead bodies and to perform home funerals. “Help the Dead” deals with ‘queer death’, mutual aid and the socialities of surviving and dying on the planet in contemporary times.

Every Ocean Hughes (EOH), formerly known as Emily Roysdon is an interdisciplinary artist and writer based in Stockholm. EOH’s recent projects take the form of live art, photographic installations, print making, text, video, and curating. EOH was editor and co-founder of the queer feminist journal and artist collective LTTR. 2019–2020 EOH will be a fellow at the Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study at Harvard University, Cambridge (US).

“Help the Dead” is commissioned by Volt. The project has received funding from the City of Bergen, The Swedish Arts Grants Committee and The Hammer Museum, Los Angeles. Volt’s programme in 2019 has received funding from Arts Council Norway, the City of Bergen, Hordaland County Council (KUP) and Public Art Norway (URO).
