The favored method in my work is flooding. Desires and anxieties gush on a surface in unbridled streams, causing stains and traces of an apocalyptic world, a world whose transient nature lacks the solidity of truth. The painting process embraces the attempt at controlling which is beyond control -producing guided accidents. The water erases and transforms initial layers while creating unexpected shapes and textures of their own. As nature takes over, the images go through an almost geomorphic process of erosion.
By painting I explore the gap between the personal and the political. I mostly choose to take my motives from photographs that provide stories of a disturbing reality of corruption, occupation, depression and exploitation. By reproducing these photographic moments in my paintings, I go through an intimate relationship with them, in an attempt to immerse and to make them my own.
My work circles around the notion of modern mythologies and the way our private and cultural stories construct our identities and systems of believes. More specifically, I focus on the long and twisted reality of my birthplace Israel, where stories and images from past and present are used to construct a paranoid and militant communal identity that maintain a state of war and occupation.
Through painting, I examine the possibilities of aesthetically evoked narratives as a way to explore the construction of our personal and emotional histories. Images don’t seem to me as something that only illustrates stories; I rather consider them as something that can evoke another
