I hvelvet: Australske Alinta Krauths tanke for det nye verket laget i Bergen; “Machinimenomenology (nr. 1)” var å skape en ny og
annerledes historie som minner om dataspill, med hjelp av remixing teknikken kjent som ’machinima’. Krauth tar i
bruk delvis ødelagt ’Context Capture’ 3D-modellerings-programvare som et verktøy for igangsetting av det narrative.
Kunstneren approprierer Google Maps i verket. Krauth er interessert i konseptet virtuell/ikke-virtuell geografi og
kartografi, og hvordan gjengivelsesfeil og mangler i digitale kartsimuleringer kan være vakre inngangspunkter for
fantasien som igjen kan trigge nye fortellinger. Presentert for første gang på Kunsthall 3.14.
In the Vault: “Machinimenomenology (no. 1)”, a video collage experiment by Alinta Krauth using partly-rendered and broken ’Context Capture’ 3D modelling software as a space for the creation of narrative. The idea was to create a story within this world reminiscent of the computer game remixing technique known as ’machinima’. The artist traverses this other-worldly 3D digital backdrop in an often awkward and uncontrollable fashion that mimics the general everyday use of Google Maps terrain. This is used to develop an improvised audio narrative, building a digital fiction around a character who lives in a partially-rendered, shifting world, where the concepts of time and entropy differ to our own. In this piece, Krauth is interested in the concept of virtual/non-virtual geography and cartography, and how the rendering errors and imperfections in digital map simulations can be beautiful entry points for the imagination. Google Maps of Bergen is used in Machinimenomenology (no. 1), featured for the first time in Kunsthall 3.14.
