Fredag 10. januar kl. 19:00 åpner Kunstgarasjen utstillingen “How beautiful – How catastrophic” av kunstneren Simone Hooymans. Katastrofe og kriser kan endre deg fundamentalt som et menneske, men energien som slippes ut i gjenoppbyggingsfasen kan, på en og samme tid, få fantasien i gang og sette fart i kreativiteten. «How beautiful – How catastrophic» utforsker den transformerende kraften i en krise, så vel som en indre reise. Animasjonene i utstillingen til Simone Hooymans er en symbolsk utforsking av tidens globale endringer og utfordringer. Arbeidet hennes har paralleler til historiske retninger slik som norsk nyromantisisme, som kjennetegnes av en søken etter storslått natur som en kontrast til det industrielle, tett befolkede urbane landskapet. Hennes arbeider viser dobbeltheten i landskapet – illevarslende, men også vakkert og mektig. Dette omformer den globale krisen til noe vidunderlig, og det lekes med den vakre spenningen i naturen, som sjelden passer inn i en enkel lineær fortelling. I stedet spiller det sammen i ukjente og uventede måter og produserer en stadig mer ukjent og uvented fremtid. Hennes siste animasjon “Ras” (Landslide) er hovedverket i utstillingen «How beautiful – How catastrophic». “Ras” hadde kinopremiere på årets BIFF-festival i Bergen og hadde utstillingspremiere på Statens Høstutstilling i Oslo og kan nå bli sett i Kunstgarasjen Parallelt med Hooymans utstilling, vil det vises utstillingen “SILJE HEGGREN” Utstillingene vises frem til 23. februar 2020. *** ÅPNING FREDAG 10. januar Kl. 19:00 Kunsthistoriker, kunstformidler og foredragsholder Renate Rivedal ( Kunstforedrag.no ) vil holde åpningstalen.

Friday Jan. 10. 2020, Kunstgarasjen opens the exhibition “How beautiful – how catastrophic” by the artist Simone Hooymans. Catastrophy and crisis can change us fundamentally as human beaings, but the energy released through the reconstruction phase, can at the same time get the imagination and creativity going. The animations in the exhibition are investigations into the symbolism of of the global change and challenges of our times. Hooymans´work has parallells to historic periods like Norwegian New Romanticism, which is characterized by by a longing for the grandeur of nature, contrasted by industrial urban landscapes. This transforms the global crisis to something wonderful, and there is a play on the beautiful tension in nature, which rarely fits into a linear story.
Hoooymans´recent animation “Ras” (Landslide) is the centre piece in this exhibition, and has previously been shown at BIFF in Bergen, and Høstutstillingen in Oslo.
Alongside this exhibition Kunstgarasjen will show the exhibition “Silje Heggren”, until Feb. 23. 2020.
