I 1973 vakte hun internasjonal oppsikt den radikale essay samlingen “Lesbian Nation, the Feminist Solution”.

This exhibition is dedicated to the cultural critic, autobiographer and lesbian icon Jill Johnston (1929-2010). Starting in the early 1960s, Johnston made a name for herself though a recurring dance column in the New York-based weekly newspaper Village Voice which became one of the most important chronicles for the Judson Dance scene. In 1973, she published the influential classic Lesbian Nation. Her personal and reflected style of writing, and the way in which she linked arts to political and social observations broke with established notions of criticism and became hugely influential for following generations of critics and writers. The exhibition aims to present the writing of Jill Johnston as a unique practice in the context of the post-1960s avant-garde and a specific perspective on often hidden links between artistic practices and social politics.
