Joy Forum is a kind of anti-statement and anti-architecture in confrontation with the surrounding building.
A gallery where we can handle and disarm any overwhelming feelings of institutional powerlessness.
Joy Forum presents Eirik Melstrøm.

The work is centered on so-called transitional objects; the idea that specific material
objects can represent psychological transitions in a person’s life – more specifically act as
objectified markers in the transition from one stage of life to another. One example is a child
being closely attached to a security blanket or a teddy bear for a time, and then suddenly
discarding it because of emotional development and growing maturity.

Instead of just playing a passive part, I am interested in questioning whether these objects
can play an active role in relating to their environments, a.i. be objects with greater agency
and ontological autonomy than what they philosophically have been attributed in the past.
This project is part of my investigation into questions related to new materialist thought. In
my mind Transitional Objects embody both the relatively new ideas of object autonomy
(Object Oriented Ontology) and the idea that object engage in a multiplicity of interactions
and perform with agency together with other objects/matter (Actor-Network Theory), both
human and non-human. The point is to challenge visually what I consider the misguiding
anthropocentric tradition that have been ruling phenomenology and object philosophy since
Kant.
